Parkway Grill

For our 8th anniversary, we had dinner at Parkway Grill on Monday night. I haven't been there in a few years but we frequent other Smith Brothers establishments and Parkway did not disappoint. I've sometimes joked that one of my spiritual gifts is ordering off a menu and I struggled last night to make my choice - everything looked so good. But, here's what was for meat:

For appetizer, we had the flatbread with pears, walnuts, and cambazola cheese. Then, we shared a roasted beet salad with Humboldt Fog, micro arugula, and candied hazelnuts. I had one of their daily specials - halibut over parmesan risotto and ratatouille with a sweet chili sauce and my husband had a Kobe rib-eye with basil mashed potatoes and baby carrots. Dessert was amazing. Him - meyer lemon tart with meringue and pistachio ice cream. Her - s'mores with homemade marshmallows, dark chocolate, thin graham crackers over vanilla bean and raspberry sauces.

Recently, I heard that Parkway was doing a cooking class featuring ingredients from their Organic Garden that's on their property (you can see it from Marengo better than from Arroyo) but by the time I called, it was full. Has anyone gone to this?

At dinner, part of our romantic musings was our list of top Pasadena restaurants. A couple of our favorites are Derek's, Cafe Verde, Celestino, Sushi Roku, Gale's, and Smitty's. What are your favorite Pasadena restaurants?

  1. Happy anniversary!

Well, this is favorite spot for sure. I liked the restaurant at the Ritz (when it was the Ritz). Stoney Point (guess that's more Eagle Rock), uhmmm, let me think.

(I'm a This American Life addict. It goes hiking with me.)

  2. One of our favorites is Red, White and Bluezz. That's where we dined on Sunday for our 6th anniversary. They're doing summer tasting menus that are a steal. My four-course meal cost less than Dan's steak! They recently hired a new chef so everything on the menu has undergone a face-lift.

We really like La Grande Orange Cafe at Del Mar Station for a more casual, but excellent quality meal (gotta try the deviled eggs).

  3. We'll have to put Stoney Point and La Grande Orange on the list to try - we liked the Ritz in the past too but haven't been as impressed with breakfasts at the Langham. Love Red White & Bluezz - happy anniversary, Nicole.

  5. Oh! And when you go to La Grande Orange, be sure to have the sangria. Very yummy.

  6. Yeah, that Humboldt Fog can be dangerous! Sangria - now I'll definitely have to try it. Firefly Bistro in South Pas has good sangria.

  9. CP - knew you'd be up for weighing in on this one. Good ideas.
Desiree - no, but my husband has a long time ago. I always see it in the Zagat and then forget about it when the occasion comes up.

  10. I'm a big Shiro's fan too. I almost always choose to go there for my birthday and almost always order the whole catfish with ponzu dipping sauce.

  11. Will said he you have to go to Gus' BBQ in south pas. He said it's been completely redone. I like Sushi Roku, Le Pain Quotidien and we just ate at red white and bluezz. Good wine but only one vegetarian choice on the menu.
